A flag has been proposed for the island of North Uist, based upon South Uist’s flag, to highlight the relationship of the two islands but with the colours reversed to demonstrate the distinction of each.
The theme of the Nordic cross is prevalent in the region, reflecting the area’s inclusion in the mediaeval Scandinavian Kingdom of the Isles. A flag representing the entire Outer Hebrides (Western Isles) archipelago also exists.
How the flag might look flying on the island
An alternative version of the flag adds a white five pointed star to the first canton
incorporating another idea for a North Uist flag which features a white star on a blue field
offset to the hoist.
