Saturday, 4th May 2019 was the first ever official Surrey Day, promoted by Visit Surrey in partnership with Surrey Life and BBC Surrey. The motivation was to harness the regional pride in one big day of celebration, although there does not appear to have been any special resonance to the specific date chosen.
Publicity for the occasion described how the county receives around 26 million visitors a year and has an international reputation for horse racing,
award-winning theatres
, art galleries,
restaurants and hotels,
as well as having over a quarter of the county designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the North Downs Way National Trail
as the jewel in the crown.
It also referred to there being so many things to see and do in the county, where people come together to enjoy a family day out, where lifelong relationships are nurtured over tea and cake
, or where lucrative business partnerships are created over a round of golf!
In the run up to Surrey Day 2019, a regional organisation presented a focus on the county flag.
